Living Well Counseling
Using my years of training in trauma work, grief work, compassion, person focused, empathy and a strong belief in the healing power of sharing our lives, my goal is to provide a place for you to be fully you, to explore and express all that needs to be shared in the safest environment, to gain insight, explore tools and invite healing for the soul. My goal is for you to “live well”.
I often have clients come to me not knowing exactly what their goals are and aren’t able to articulate a “problem”. They just know everything is not okay. Sometimes they are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, their job, spouse, kids, parents or just don’t feel well in general. I will admit that often times during the exploration phase we will discover an adverse event in life that has greatly affected them that they had not identified before. Through reprocessing they are able to heal and also identify the triggers from this event and the effects it has had in life.
Sometimes my clients just need help in re-setting their goals and encouragement and accountability to move toward those goals.
Sometimes we are able to recognize that poor self-care or feelings of negative self-worth have affected life decisions. Using CBT, reducing the skewed thinking and building self-worth will change their way of thinking, which will change the feelings they are experiencing which will change behavior. It is the Cognitive triangle (feel free to look that up). Once they identify that thoughts/feelings/behavior are all connected they can take control of their lives, feeling less helpless and more powerful and are able to change unwanted behavior.
I also have clients who have been to counseling before and are just returning to experience a “re-set” in life either emotionally or spiritually.
I believe through life we often find ourselves drifting away from our authentic selves, what I refer to as our “core self”. The longer we stay away the harder it is to find our way back. We only experience peace and joy when we are congruent with our core. Identifying when and why we moved away is essential and working through our different parts, healing the wounds and connection with others are all key in being authentic. One of the most popular and longest studies ever researched is a Harvard study on what makes people happy. To sum up the study that began in 1938, the connection to other people is the most important thing over your lifetime. Helping people connect with others is always going to be an integral part of treatment, it might begin by making a connection with the therapist, but it should grow outside of the therapy office to people who will be there for a lifetime. Helping people find their tribe, their soulmates and those who encourage and believe in them is one of the keys to happiness and one I will help build. My goal is to change the world, one person at a time so we have many people running around “living well”.
Before coming in I will send you a couple of assessments that will help us identify areas we may want to explore, a depression, anxiety and trauma assessment will often identify target areas to begin exploring.
My friend, my brother or sister, it is okay to tell, to share, to seek help from others (even a professional) and heal so you can be who you were always meant to be.
